If you were ever curious about what would happen if the American government traded the Cheyenne nation one thousand white women for one thousand horses then this is the book for you.
The fictional journals of May Dodd who was put in a mental institution by her family for her "promiscuity" and as her last resort for freedom enrolls in the Brides for Indians program are absoutely captivating. So real and engrossing with so many actual events woven in, I'd never want to watch it as a movie because of the violence but it had a certain undeniable beauty about it. May Dodd is every woman's heroine.
My favorite line: "I believe happiness is a white man's invention."
General consensus: Will leave you changed forever.
