Book Review #6

Deception Point by Dan Brown

This is a mass market bestseller for males at its finest. It’s the typical thriller that is perfect for purchase at a train station or airport. The first few pages took me back to when I attempted to read Patriot Games by Tom Clancy and ended up throwing it away. Unfortunately for me I don't have the proper infrastructure to enjoy this type of work.

I’ve read the big name Dan Brown books before—The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons—and I’ve finally realized what bothers me about his writing: he’s not very good at it! Who would have thought when the stuff hardly has a moment to sit on the shelf before being whisked away and read with vigor? He may not be a good writer but he sure knows how to keep your attention.

However, Deception Point had no chance of keeping my attention since it was obviously contrived from the very start. I sighed heavily while turning to page 19 and then admitted to my husband that the book was annoying me. He asked me why I was still reading it. I didn’t have a good answer so I threw it aside. I opted to play a tedious game of War with him instead.

Length of time to read before banishing from my presence: 12 hours (to page 19)
General consensus: Prerequisites to enjoy this novel: have a penis and some time to kill.
