Book Report #149 All That Matters

All That Matters by Jan Goldstein

21 year old Jennifer is heartbroken after her parents divorce, her mother is killed in a drunk driving accident, and the love of her life dumps her out of nowhere. She tries to take her life in Venice Beach, but her efforts are thwarted.

Her overbearing producer father tries to handle the situation, but she's grown to hate him over the years. Luckily her grandmother shows up from New York City, and says she wants to take care of her. Jennifer decides to go with her rather than stay with her father or be institutionalized.

Grandmother and grand-daughter develop an inspiring bond due to the way they cope with the tragedies of their lives together and grow in love.

General consensus: The writing is a bit dry, and it's not the best thing I ever read, but there are some parts that will stay with me.

Update: Just learned that Jan is a man!
