Book Report #101 - Outliers

Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell

Gladwell is the author of Blinkand The Tipping Point. Here he dissects success and discovers that it is not the product of the usual "picked himself up by the bootstraps" story that we've heard a zillion times. Success is the product of talent along with fortunate circumstances and a lot of effort.

It is an entertaining read filled with interesting illustrations of his points. He shows us the most brilliant man in America who never achieved fame and wealth and the transcripts of pilots during plane crashes to explain why it would happen so much at Korean Air. He also shows why Bill Gates and The Beatles were able to achieve so much success. Turns out it's not that complicated but it may be out of reach for most of us.

General consensus: I am an outlier to this theory! I was the youngest in my class and I never felt disadvantaged for it. What the heck? Maybe it was because I was busy getting my 10,000 hours of reading under my belt.
